This Decibullz review post will share the major features of the earplugs and reveal how most of the actual consumers felt about the product. Also, I added how trendy this product is to let you know the popularity of Decibullz in the world.
Decibullz Earplugs Major Features
Decibullz is not a product name actually. It is a brand name. The firm has a range of several products. But when I searched Decibullz on Google and Amazon, the top of the rank was Decibullz custom molded earplugs. So, I will assume that that’s what you came for.
Custom Molded Earplugs
The trademark feature of Decibullz earplugs is the easy fit into your ears. We all have different ears in shapes and sizes. Many earplugs (or headphones) in the market, however, have a one-design-fits-all concept. You would buy one and find that they are not perfect for your ears. The founder of Decibullz saw this problem and developed the earplugs that you can custom-mold them. And they will become earplugs that are only for you.
Easy Customization Again and Again
To mold your earplugs, you don’t need to go through any complicated process. I found it’s very simple. You only need warm water to turn the earplugs into moldable. If you make a mistake while molding or your molded earplugs don’t quite fit, it’s always re-moldable by putting them into warm water. Decibullz explains “Decibullz are the only custom earplugs that are re-moldable” on its website.
Multi-Purposes
When do you want to plug your ears? I personally would want them when I read or write blog posts. Listening to music sometimes work, but there are occasions where I just want peaceful and quiet moments. If you think about the main function that lets you hear nothing, you could them in many different situations. You could use them to block noise while shooting, too-loud concerts, parties, and more. Since the earplugs block your ears, you could also use them for swimming, surfing, diving, and more.
There are currently three types you want to consider. Think about your use case and you might want a model with a specific purpose.
- Custom molded earplugs
- Custom molded percussive shooting filters
- High fidelity earplugs
I explained more about the percussive shooting filters and high fidelity models in a later section.
NRR 31
If you read the specifications, it says that it’s designed for NRR 31. Let’s first learn what that means.
What is NRR 31
This safety supplier website explains that Noise Reduction Rating, NRR, is a measurement unit to determine the effectiveness of hearing protection gears to reduce sound exposure in a given working environment. The higher the NRR number is allocated to a hearing protector, the greater the potential for noise reduction. This another noise expert website tells that the highest NRR (highest effectiveness) that earplugs can get is an NRR of 33, which is the figure Decibullz has.
For your reference, I also put a link to an NRR calculator at the bottom of this post. There, you can put 33 for Protector NRR and Sound Level dB(A) of your noisy environment. Then the calculator will give you a dB(A) figure that the Decibullz earplugs would reduce noise into.
How to Mold Your Earplugs
To have an idea of how you will mold your earplugs, read through this section and decide if it would easy or hard for you.
Heat
It is the Decibullz’s unique thermoplastic material that allows customization molding. When the plastic material meets heat, it becomes soft and malleable. Thanks to this material, you can reshape your earplugs again.
Shape
Once it is heated, let them cool for around 30 seconds. Then, you are ready for shaping. Just insert the earplugs into your ears and use your fingers to help shape the earpiece. Make sure that the earplugs are not too hot to insert.
Use
Now that you shaped your earplugs, you can start using them. You can follow these steps not only for the earplugs but also for Decibullz earphones.

Percussive Shooting Filters
The model is specifically designed to protect you from the peak sound pressure of gunshots and explosions. Although it securely fits into your ears, Decibullz pointed out that you can still hear ambient noise for situational awareness. To enable the function, Decibullz adapted new cutting-edge percussive impulse filter technology. Same as the basic Decibullz earplugs, you can customize the percussive filters and re-mold them. This model has an NRR value of 31 in maximum.
High Fidelity Earplugs
The High Fidelity Earplugs are equipped with a tuned attenuation. This allows frequencies to be reduced to a safer level without distorting the sound. These plugins are designed for concerts, events, sound sensitivity, and anyone who want to decrease noise while keeping sound accuracy. This model comes in one color, black, and has an NRR value of 12dB.
Prices
As of August 5, 2019, the three models of earplugs are priced as follow:
- Custom-molded earplugs: $25.99USD
- Custom-molded percussive shotting filters: $74.99USD
- High-fidelity earplugs: $39.99USD
Specific Use Cases
On the Decibullz website, they introduce 4 specific use cases.
Earphones for Fitness
The first use case is Decibullz earphones for fitness. As mentioned, Decibullz also has an earphone product range that makes good use of the Decibullz’s moldable technology. They mentioned that Decibullz earbuds have been tested by athletes like Olympic gymnasts and other world-class athletes. The firm said that they received great reviews from the testers. The added that the firm was awarded Consumer Electronics Show Innovation awards and voted the best earphone of 2015 by USA Today and Reviewed.com.
Earplugs for Shooting Sports
If you ever experienced a shooting sound, you know how big and irritating a gun sound is. Decibullz explained on their website that gun users should wear proper shooting range ear protection to prevent hearing loss due to the repeated loud noise from a firing weapon. Decibullz has a specific model for gun shooting, which is percussive shooting filters. The firm pointed out that the product underwent intensive third-party laboratory testing to ensure quality, performance, and ease of use and comfort.
Earplugs for Manufacturing
The machines in the factory generate noisy sound, which even makes it hard to communicate with people right next to you. The problem is that the factory workers get exposed to constant noise and experience hearing impairment. If you work in a noisy environment, you will want to seriously consider protecting your ears. According to the NIOSH Occupational Hearing Loss Surveillance Project, around 14% of manufacturing workers exposed to noise go through some type of hearing impairment.
Ear Protection for Musicians
Musicians use a technology called In-ear Monitors or IEMs. With IEMs, musicians can monitor their sound and protect their ears, which is a dual purpose. Decibullz earphones can serve both purposes – sound monitor and noise isolation.
How People Think About Decibullz
When you see product introduction from a company, you will always hear great things about it. No company will reveal any weaknesses or defects of the product, obviously. So, as a consumer, it is wiser to doubt what they say and do your own research before making a final purchase decision. In this section, we will learn how actual users think about Decibullz. How can we measure these? We can do this by using data analysis techniques called sentiment analysis.
You don’t have to be scared by the technical term. I did the technical part and you can just look at pretty graphs. In this section, I will show you two types of graphs – word cloud and customer sentiment chart. For the analysis, I’ve compiled more than 3,300 customer reviews from Amazon and conducted analysis to summarize them. I will show you the result in a word cloud and a customer sentiments chart. And, lastly, I will share a Decibullz’s Google trend result that shows the level of interest from people.
Word Cloud
Word cloud is one of the great and fun ways to understand customer sentiments toward a product or a service. In a word cloud, you can see specific words in different sizes. The larger it is, the more people used that word to describe the product. For this word cloud, I used the titles of the reviews, since people put the essence of their opinions in the title. The 3,300+ reviews allowed me to generate an interesting word cloud that let me reach a positive conclusion. Let’s have a look!

Understanding the word cloud is easy. Just follow your eyes and see what you see. You will see that most of the big words are all positive. This means that customers have had a positive experience with their product and service. People used words like “great”, “easy”, “comfortable”, “good”, “fivestars”, and more positive terms to describe this online store.
In the word cloud, when reviewers give five stars out of five without putting a title, Amazon uses the five starts as a title. This tells us that many consumers had five-start experiences with the product. There were meaningful words like “comfortable”, “easy”, and “fit” that is related to usability.
Customer Sentiments
In the word cloud, we were able to observe what descriptive words people used to talk about Decibullz. As mentioned, the word cloud is based on the titles of customer reviews, but the sentiment analysis graph was generated by the contents of the reviews. In the sentiment analysis, we will see more specific types of feeling that people showed in their review. In the analysis, you can see 10 different sentiments such as positive, negative, trust, anticipation, joy, fear, sadness, anger, surprise, and disgust.
The technology behind the chart is straightforward. The analysis algorithm holds 10 different lists – each list containing words that are mapped to one of the 10 sentiments. When this algorithm runs, it checks and matches with one of the sentiments. When matched, it is counted as one and is categorized in one of the 10 sentiments. My analysis on the positive reviews appears as below.

The chart is also not difficult to understand. You can see that the positive sentiment is ranked number one. The first rank is followed by “negative”, “trust”, “fear” and “anticipation”. It does have some negative opinions, but overall, people expressed more positive sentiments than negative ones. So my customer review analysis told me that many people have a positive experience with the earplugs.
Google Trend
As the final segment of analysis, let me share the trend of Decibullz. I used Google Trend to check how frequently “Decibullz” is searched on Google over the past 5 years. Google Trend is a useful tool to measure the interest of people. The more frequently people search on Google, the more popular or trendy it is. The Google Trend (may not visible on a mobile phone) of the ear protection gears below shows that people have increasingly shown an interest in Decibullz over that period.

If this trend continues, the level of interest is likely to go up in the future as well. Please note that the trend is from the whole world. If I divide it by country, we can see that the largest interest came from the United States.

The list shows us that the second biggest interest came from Canada, followed by Australia, the United Kingdom, and Taiwan.
Conclusion
In this post, we learned the major features of Decibullz earplugs and how to use them. My analysis of Decibullz review revealed that most of the actual consumers had a positive experience with the product. Also, over the past 5 years, people’s interest in the earplugs has constantly shown on the Internet. All these factors combined, I believe that Decibullz earplugs are worth trying.
