Thanks to high demand, companies compete for the spot in your fridge. Some companies lowered their price. Some companies emphasized healthy ingredients.
Fairlife milk is in the latter group that focuses on healthy and functional ingredients of their milk. This review will reveal the major features of Fairlife milk. You can also learn how most of the consumers felt about the product, which can be helpful for your purchase decision.
About Fairlife Milk
Fairlife produces a variety of mike products including ultra-filtered milk, shakes, drinkable snakes, and meal replacement beverages products – for Canada and the United States markets. The company started in 2012 with the aim of providing health benefits and good tastes to people. Their drive for healthy milk attracted Coca-Cola. Until 2019, Coca-Cola owned 42.5% of Fairlife. In early 2020, Coca-Cola acquired the entire stake in the specialty milk producer according to Wikipedia.
Fairlife Milk Products and Benefits
Fairlife has diverse products and each of them is specialized in different benefits. In this review, we will first look at milk products.
This variety is at the top of their product list and it has five different products.
2% Ultra-Filtered Milk
Fairmilk’s 2% fat ultra-filtered milk has 50% more protein and 50% less sugar than regular milk while preserving delicious taste. It also does use artificial growth hormones. Plus, it is lactose-free. It comes in 52oz, 11.5oz, or 8oz in 6-pack.
Chocolate Ultra-Filtered Milk
While keeping the benefits of 50% more protein, 50% less sugar, and being lactose-free, Fairmilk added chocolate flavor. It comes in 52oz, 11.5oz, or 8oz in 6-pack.
1% Ultra-Filtered Milk
This is 1% low fat ultra-filtered milk that has the same benefits of 50% more protein, 50% less sugar, and being lactose-free. It comes in 52oz only.
Fat-Free Ultra-Filtered Milk
This product does not contain fat. It also has 50% more protein and 50% less sugar without lactose. It comes in 52oz only.
Whole Ultra-Filtered Milk
This version provides creamy and full flavor but it has 50% less protein and 50% less sugar than normal milk products. It does not contain lactose either. The product comes in 52oz only.
Ultra-Filtered Milk with DHA
This is another line of ultra-filtered milk products, and there are three varieties in the group.
2% Ultra-Filtered Milk with DHA
This 2% reduced-fat ultra-filtered milk contains 13g of protein and 125mg of DHA Omega-3 per serving. Same as the other ultra-filtered line, the amount of protein is as twice as that of normal milk and it has 50% less sugar. Plus, it is lactose-free as well. It is available in 52 oz.
Whole Ultra-Filtered Milk with DHA
This creamy and tasty milk contains 125mg of DHA Omega-3 per serving. It also has 50% more protein and 50% less sugar with the benefits of being lactose-free. It comes in 52oz.
Chocolate Ultra-Filtered Milk with DHA
The delicious chocolate flavored option has 125mg DHA Omega-3 per serving with 50% more protein and 50% less sugar. Of course, it is lactose-free too. It is available in 52oz.
It has been known that the prices of Fairlife milk products are as twice as other regular milk. Don’t judge it yet because my customer review analysis says that many people enjoyed the milk in spite of the price tag. You will see it in the next section.
On Amazon, I was able to see that a pack of 12 Fairlife Ultra-Filtered Milk Classic While is priced at $23.99. It seems like the seller offers a subscription option at a lower price.
I also could find that a 12-pack of Fairlife Nutrition Plan High Protein Chocolate Shake is sold at $39.99. But that’s a shake, not the milk.
According to CNN, a 52-ounce pack of the ultra-filtered milk is priced at $3.99 – as I said more expensive than other normal milk but I think it’s reasonable considering the benefits.
How People Thought About Fairlife Products
When you consider buying a product or using a service, you will wonder what experiences other buyers had. Investigating the reviews of other users can lead to a better decision, and it is a wise thing to do as a consumer. If people are dissatisfied with it, they will complain about it and won’t recommend it. If they are happy, they will leave positive comments and share their great experiences. If we can compile and analyze those reviews, we can have an assurance about the product or the service.
That’s what I am going to do for you. I analyzed the combined (more than 500) reviews people left for the ultra-filtered milk and chocolate shake on Amazon. I summarized those data to generate easy-to-understand graphs and charts. Those visuals will allow you to understand the overall sentiments the customers had toward Fairlife products.
Positive Fairlife Word Cloud
In a word cloud, some words will appear bigger because those specific words were more frequently used among customers. So, the bigger the more frequent, thus, if those big words are positive, it proves that most of the customers had a positive experience. Have a look at the word cloud of the Fairlife products.
The word cloud above should have given you a good impression of their products. The most frequent word that actual customers used in their reviews was “great”. Other big words are also positive – “good”, “taste”, “delicious”, “best”, “protein”, and many more. Just by looking at the word cloud, we can learn that most of the people were satisfied with the specialty dairy products.
Among the words above, “delicious”, “tasty”, and “protein” caught my attention since they exactly describe what the products are specialized in – high protein, low sugar, and good taste. If I share some of the reviews containing each of the words:
“Delicious and great texture!”
“A delicious way to add variety and nutrition to our diet”
“Addictive-so delicious”Positive review using the word, “delicious”
“Tasty, hot or cold”
“Tasty meal substitute”Positive review using the word, “tasty”
“Best protein shake out there”
“MAGIC! Finally a High-Protein Shake That You Don’t Mind Drinking AND Tastes Good!”
“Does NOT taste like a protein shake! You can’t go wrong with this!”Positive review using the word, “protein”
The word cloud tells you what descriptive words people used for the product. There is another angle we can use to understand the Fairlife’s customer reviews. That is by categorizing the reviews into a type of 10 sentiments. While I used the review titles for the word cloud above, I used the review contents for the sentiment analysis. The result is the graph below.
I was able to run my sentiment analysis code to find out what specific sentiments people had over the Fairlife products. As we could guess from the word cloud, more than half of the review contents were positive. Of course, people shared negative experiences. I haven’t seen any review that is all positive. Despite the negative reviews, overall, people left positive comments on the healthy dairy products.
Still, we have negative opinions. As I researched, those who left negative review didn’t like their price tag and shorter expiration date. I won’t mention the price again since I already did it above.
The complaint about the short expiration date could be related to a longer-than-expected delivery time by Amazon. That’s because it seems that Fairlife Milk has the same shelf life as other ordinary milk at the FAQ below shows:
So, the shorter expiration date may not be relevant.
Fairlife Milk Interest Trend
Another type of analysis I often use for a product review is using Google Trend. It is an extremely helpful service by Google that gives you a historical Google search trend. The idea is that if a product or a company can maintain or can increase its search volume over many years, it supports the quality of the product. If a product is bad, people won’t show their interest and eventually will never search for the product anymore. Then, how is the trend of Fairlife Milk? Plus, how has people’s interest in general been changed?
The blue line represents the search volume of “fairlife milk” on Google over the past 5 years. Most of the time, the line maintained a stable level of volume. However, in June 2019, there was a big spike. That usually indicates some surprising event or news relevant to the product. As I researched, I found this happened.
It is an unfortunate incident but it is noteworthy how they responded, which I think it held accountability. Since then, the line returned back to the normal days with a slightly higher volume.
That search volume is not only from the U.S. but from the world. If we break down the volume by country, it looks as below:
As we can expected, the biggest search happened in the U.S. followed by Canada, Australia and others. Fairmilk is currently sold in the U.S. and Canada. Since America ranked one, let’s see which states showed the most interest in Fairlife Milke.
It turns out Minnesota showed the biggest interest followed by North Dakota, Iowa, Louisiana, and Alabama. Are you from one of these states?
Why Lactose Free Milk?
I understood that more protein and lower sugar are good for your health. But, what about Lactose? Why is lactose-free good for you? This health expert website explains that if you are lactose-intolerant, a glass of milk might lead to diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain caused by digestive distress.
The expert explains that lactose-free milk provides the same nutrients as normal milk. Plus, texture and taste are also the same. Like regular milk, lactose-free milk contains protein, calcium, phosphorus, vitamin B12, riboflavin and vitamin D.
It turned out that Fairlife Milk provides good health benefits with higher protein and lower sugar while preserving the good taste of milk. My customer review analysis also tells that many people enjoyed drinking Fairlife Milk thanks to taste and healthy ingredients. Try a bottle of their milk and if you love it, you maybe would want to buy in pack.
