Nothing can beat the freshness and coolness of draft beer. The fist gulp of it gives you the creamy and soft mouth feel. To have draft beer, though, you have to go outside to a bar. Fizzics was born to allow consumers to enjoy the same feeling of draft beer at home. You can use bottled or can beer and turn them into draft beer. In this post, I will share my research on how actual customers felt about Fizzics and introduce major features of Fizzics.

About Company

The company behind this great idea is Fizzics Group based in Manchester, New Hampshire, the U.S. The firm was founded by Philip Petracca, Roger An and David McDonald. They believed that beer is the result of amazing art work from brew masters so it deserves to be respected and consumed in the way the masters intended. With this mission, they developed the world’s first portable beer dispenser. The product uses patent-pending fluid and gas technology to boost the flavor and taste of your beer of choice.

Major Features

Let’s discover what major features of Fizzics dispensers.

Enhancing look and feel of beer

One of the main focuses of Fizzics dispenser is to copy the look and taste of draft beer. Using Fizzics, you can make your beer from bottle shop look and taste like draft beer. Also, this device enhances the aroma and gives you a smooth and creamy texture of the draft beer.

Compatible with all beer types

Fizzics embraces all beer types including IPAs, Pilsners, Brown Ales, Stouts, Proters, Lagers, and more. So you can simply put your favorite beer into Fizzics without having to check a list. Plus, Fizzics comes with a personal beer tap that is compatible with all cans and bottles. It’s really simple and easy to use.

No gas cartridges needed

I really liked the fact that you don’t have to replace gas cartridge. That’s not convenient and affordable when you have to replace it over and over. You can simply charge the machine with USB or two standard AA batteries. This makes it easy to carry for outdoor activities, picnics, and camping. It is light and durable.

How customers thought about Fizzics

When you consider buying a product or using a service, you will wonder what experiences other buyers had. Investigating the reviews of other users can lead to a better decision, and it is a wise thing to do as a consumer. If people are dissatisfied with it, they will complain about it and won’t recommend it. If they are happy, they will leave positive comments and share their great experiences. If we can compile and analyze those reviews, we can have an assurance about the product or the service.

That’s what I am going to do for you. I analyzed the combined (more than 450) Fizzics Draftpour reviews that people left on Amazon. I summarized those data to generate easy-to-understand graphs and charts. Those visuals will allow you to understand the overall sentiments the customers had toward Fizzics products.

Positive Fizzics Word Cloud

In a word cloud, some words will appear bigger because those specific words were more frequently used among customers. So, the bigger the more frequent, thus, if those big words are positive, it proves that most of the customers had a positive experience. Have a look at the word cloud of the Fizzics dispenser.

The word cloud above should have given you a good impression of their products. The most frequent word that actual customers used in their reviews was “great”. Other big words are also positive – “good”, “stars”, “five”, “better”, “taste”, “works”, “love”, and many more. Just by looking at the word cloud, we can learn that most of the people were satisfied with the smart beer dispenser.

Among the words above, “taste”, “fun”, and “home” caught my attention since they exactly describe what the products are about. It makes beer taste better and makes drinking as fun experience. You can taste draft beer at home. Let me share some reviews that use some of the words above.

“Home”

“Great! Tap beer at home”

“Great for home beer drinkers – Improvement for sure”

“Home beer on tap and worth every cent!”

“Taste”

“Beer tastes so much better, great for entertaining!”

“This is great! Makes any beer taste better – opens up …”

“He loved it! Said the taste was amazing and marveled …”

“Fun”

“Beer is so much more fun and tasty”

“What a fun gadget! Haven’t seen anything like it”

“So much fun and great for the beer enthusiast”

Customer Sentiments

The word cloud tells you what descriptive words people used for the product. There is another angle we can use to understand the Fizzic’s customer reviews. That is by categorizing the reviews into a type of 10 sentiments. While I used the review titles for the word cloud above, I used the review contents for the sentiment analysis. The result is the graph below.

I was able to run my sentiment analysis code to find out what specific sentiments people had over the Fizzics product. As we could guess from the word cloud, more than half of the review contents were positive. Of course, people shared negative experiences. I haven’t seen any review that is all positive. Despite the negative reviews, overall, people left positive comments on the beer dispenser.

Although the customer sentiments were generally positive, there was negative feedback from customers. If I share some of the complaints:

“Interesting beer toy, not so durable.”

“My push dispenser system is broken. Waiting for a …”

“Product stopped dispensing beer after four uses. Now only does foam. Very disappointing.”

As I read through the reviews, I found some customers didn’t like its durability. Some of the reviews were written as above. If the product does not working because of some defect by the product itself, check their warranty policy to repair.

Fizzics Interest Trend

Another type of analysis I often use for a product review is using Google Trend. It is an extremely helpful service by Google that gives you a historical Google search trend. The idea is that if a product or a company can maintain or can increase its search volume over many years, it supports the quality of the product. If a product is bad, people won’t show their interest and eventually will never search for the product anymore. Then, how is the trend of Fizzics? How has people’s interest in general been changed?

The blue line represents the search volume of “fizzics” on Google over the past 3 years. There were fluctuations with the highest spike in September 2017. Since, although there were ups and downs, it has been able to maintain base search volumes on Google.

Know about draft beer

Fizzics products were designed to turn the beer you can buy from liquor stores into draft beer. Because it is about draft beer, I thought we should know more about it. In this section, we will learn more about draft beer. You can share this knowledge with your friends while drinking it!

What is Draft Beer?

First thing first, we need to know what draft beer is. Draft beer does not refer to a certain brand or type of beer. Draft beer (or tap beer) is the beer that is served on tap from a keg. That’s opposite to the beer from a bottle or a can. People prefer draft beer because it is straight from kegs, which makes beer fresher. Why is it fresh? that’s because it has a shorter distribution cycle from brewery to distributor to bar according to the beer expert website.

How is beer dispensed from kegs?

The beer article explains that there are various ways to pull draft beer out from a keg. A typical system pumps carbon dioxide gas into the keg (or beer gas that is a blend of CO2 and nitrogen gas). This, in turn, forces the beer to come out of the keg through beer lines to a faucet that pours beer into your glass.

Why does draft beer taste better?

So, I mentioned briefly why draft beer tastes better above. Let’s dig deeper because shorter distribution cycle alone does not decide the better taste. I learned more reasons from another beer article.

  • No pasteurization: when beer is bottled or canned, it is pasteurized in a high temperature to kill germs. This is a necessary step because it needs to be stored long before being consumed. In contrast, draft beer is simply refrigerated until it is served on tap.
  • No exposure to light: when beer is bottled, it can be exposed to light. Light reacts with hops in beer and leads to more bitterness than intended. This is the reason why beer in the light-colored bottles smells a bit stinkier than those in darker-colored bottles. Draft beer, however, has almost no chance of being exposed to light because of the container.
  • Less oxidization: when beer meets air, it becomes oxidized, which has a negative impact on the flavor of alcohol. Beer has hops, carbohydrates, and alcohol, and they are vulnerable to oxidization. When beer is bottled or canned, there is more exposure to air because you have to store beer in individual containers. However, draft beer is stored in large kegs with pressurized tops.

Conclusion

We took a look at the Fizzic’s major features and how customers thought about the product. My customer sentiment analysis showed that many people loved the smart beer dispenser. There were also negative feedback on durability. In general, however, it seemed that people were satisfied with the taste and fun experience with Fizzics. Also, they liked the fact that it is portable and used at home.
