This Goby Toothbrush review post will show you the major features of the product and reveal how actual consumers felt about the toothbrush. Plus, as you read through this article, you will learn if this electric toothbrush gained interest from people and if the trend is likely to continue.

Major Features

There are plenty of electronic toothbrushes in the market. When I researched Goby Toothbrush products, I felt that they stand out in design, simplicity, and affordability. In this section, we will discover the major features of Goby toothbrushes.

Simply Choose One of Two Options

If you had a chance to look at other electric toothbrushes, you would probably see that they have many options to learn and memorize. The question is, do you really need many options? The Goby toothbrush only essential speed options – normal and gentle. That’s it. If your mouth is sensitive, you can choose the gentle option. If not, just go ahead with the normal speed. No need to read the manual.

Built-in Timer

You don’t check the time while brushing your teeth, do you? Dentists recommend people to brush for 2 minutes. When you start turning on the brush, it will continue brushing until it reaches 2 minutes. Plus, when every 30 second passes, it will prompt you to switch quadrants. This will help you to build a healthy brushing habit.

Easy Charging

You don’t need to buy a battery to run the brush. It has a magnetic USB charging shell that allows you to charge the built-in battery easily. It is magnetic that you can simply put the charger on the brush body. Goby explains that you only need to charge it twice a month.

In addition to brushing time, people often are not aware of when to change the brush. Goby has this convenient subscription feature that when subscribed, they will deliver a new brush head for $6 every 2 months. Goby says on their website that it is free shipping. This brush head subscription will let you know when you need to change the head. Dentists recommend replacing a brush head at least one in three months.

Sophisticated Bristles

When you buy a new toothbrush, sometimes you choose the wrong one that is sharp or too hard. If you keep using it, it can damage your gums and cause bacterial infections. The bristles of Goby toothbrush, as Goby claims, are examined at a microscopic level to maintain consistent end-rounding for great performance.

As of August 13, 2019, I can see three basic models and two limited editions.

Metallic Brush Kits

The metallic brush kit is priced at $80 with the brush head subscription. If you want one-time purchase only for the kit, the price becomes $95. This model comes in a single color, gold.

Monochrome Brush Kits

This monochrome design covers the whole toothbrush in one of the three colors – black, pink, and white. This kit is priced at $60 with the subscription. The one-time kit is $75.

Classic Brush Kits

This kit is the cheapest option among the three. With the subscription, the price is $50. And for the one-time purchase, it is $65. The available colors include black, blue, and red.

Goby x Maxwell McMaster Electric Toothbrush

This is a limited edition model that has an interesting image on its body. The price, with the subscription, is $60, and for the one-time purchase, it is $75. If you want to check the design, please check this Goby website page.

Designagoby Electric Toothbrush

This is another limited edition model that is covered in black with flower images (not 100% sure if it’s flower though). The price is the same, $60 with the subscription. $75 for a one-time purchase. If you are curious about the design, please check this page.

Comparison with Other Oscillating Toothbrushes

To pick candidates for comparison, I referred to this post, The 5 Best Electric Toothbrushes, According to Dentists.

  • Foreo ISSA 2 Toothbrush: $169
  • Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Toothbrush: $80
  • Rotadent Contour: $117
  • Oral-B Pro 1000 Power Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush Powered by Braun: $69
  • Philips Sonicare Flexcare Plus Sonic Electric Rechargeable Toothbrush: $130

As I ran the comparison, two obvious facts surfaced. One is that these other products are twice or three times more expensive than Goby is. The other is that their designs looked bulky and heavy. I recommend you to go to the website and see their design. Then, you will realize that Goby looks more sleek and simpler.

About Goby

We’ve just found out the major features and prices. For your knowledge, let’s learn how these products were born, and who is behind the invention.

Like many other startups, Goby was built upon the problems the founders faced. Claire Burke and Ben Goldberg were frustrated by oral care offerings. Like many others, Ben had an unenjoyable experience of visiting the dentist. He had to buy an overpriced electric toothbrush and search for an expensive upgrade and replacement. With the motives to get rid of these unreasonable factors, they started Goby.

How People Think About Goby Toothbrush

When you see product introduction from a company, you will always hear great things about it. No company will reveal any weaknesses or defects of the product, obviously. So, as a consumer, it is wiser to doubt what they say and do your own research before making a final purchase decision. In this section, we will learn how actual users think about the product. How can we measure these? We can do this by using data analysis techniques called sentiment analysis.

You don’t have to be scared by the technical term. I did the technical part and you can just look at pretty graphs. In this section, I will show you two types of graphs – word cloud and customer sentiment chart. For the analysis, I’ve compiled more than 500 customer reviews from the Goby website and conducted analysis to summarize them. I will show you the result in a word cloud and a customer sentiments chart. And, lastly, I will share a Goby toothbrush’s Google trend result that shows the level of interest from people.

Word Cloud

Word cloud is one of the great and fun ways to understand customer sentiments toward a product or a service. In a word cloud, you can see specific words in different sizes. The larger it is, the more people used that word to describe the product. For this word cloud, I used the titles of the reviews, since people put the essence of their opinions in the title. The 500+ reviews allowed me to generate an interesting word cloud that let me reach a positive conclusion. Let’s have a look!

Understanding the word cloud is easy. Just follow your eyes and see what you see. You will see that most of the big words are all positive. This means that customers have had a positive experience with their product and service. People used words like “love”, “great”, “awesome”, “good”, “amazing”, and more positive terms to describe this toothbrush.

Customer Sentiments

In the word cloud, we were able to observe what descriptive words people used to talk about Goby toothbrush. As mentioned, the word cloud is based on the titles of customer reviews, but the sentiment analysis graph was generated by the contents of the reviews. In the sentiment analysis, we will see more specific types of feeling that people showed in their review. In the analysis, you can see 10 different sentiments such as positive, negative, trust, anticipation, joy, fear, sadness, anger, surprise, and disgust.

The technology behind the chart is straightforward. The analysis algorithm holds 10 different lists – each list containing words that are mapped to one of the 10 sentiments. When this algorithm runs, it checks and matches with one of the sentiments. When matched, it is counted as one and is categorized in one of the 10 sentiments. My analysis on the positive reviews appears as below.

The chart is also not difficult to understand. You can see that the positive sentiment is ranked number one. The first rank is followed by “negative”, “trust”, “joy” and “anticipation”. It does have some negative opinions, but overall, people expressed more positive sentiments than negative ones. So my customer review analysis told me that many people have a positive experience with Goby. To give you more clarity, I made a simpler one that shows you only positive and negative sentiments as below.

Goby Positive Sentiments

Now, this looks simpler, and it obviously tells you that more people had a positive experience with the product.

Google Trend

As the final segment of analysis, let me share the trend of Goby toothbrush. I used Google Trend to check how frequently “Goby toothbrush” is searched on Google over the past 5 years. Google Trend is a useful tool to measure the interest of people. The more frequently people search on Google, the more popular or trendy it is. The Google Trend (may not visible on a mobile phone) of the toothbrush below shows that people have increasingly shown an interest in the product over that period.

If this trend continues, the level of interest is likely to go on. Please note that the trend is from the United States. If I divide it by state, we can see that the largest interest came from New York. To see the state rank, find the list icon at the bottom right and click it. It will turn into the rank.

The list will tell you the second biggest interest came from California and the third from Texas.

I hope that you have learned enough about Goby toothbrush throughout my review post. They have good designs, reasonable prices, and ease of use. If you are looking for an electric toothbrush, I recommend considering Goby as your choice. Best of all, Goby offers a 60 day trial. If you don’t like it, you can return it within 60 days to get a full refund.
