MacKeeper Review, Protect Your Mac Securely

Sharing is caring!

We put our private data on our laptop and forget about them. We just naively believe that they will be kept securely. We download all kinds of files, and unknowingly we download malware and adware that slow down your laptop and steal your precious personal information. If you are a Mac user, the security software, MacKeeper can protect you from these incidents. This article will explain about MacKeeper and share my customer review analysis.

Who Made MacKeeper?

Kromtech Alliance Corporation is based in Germany and is an international IT development firm. The company focuses on software development and customer support for Apple’s Mac OS. Kromtech not only has MacKeeper in their product line but also Memory Keeper and Track My Mac which is an anti-theft application. (Wikipedia)

I will also include some explanation on the two products, Memory Keeper and Track My Mac for you. If your computer gets slowed down at some point, your Mac might experience a lack of memory due to unnecessary programs.

Kromtech is not a small company. It has been around us for over 8 years and it has over 800 employees. Not many of the startup companies can survive for that long, which implies that the firm has been successfully maintaining its business. This also indicates the quality of MacKeeper. It is obvious that a company with poor products cannot sustain its business that long either. Thus, the company’s good history and track record are a good reflection of MacKeeper.

Then, now let’s find out about MacKeeper

What Is MacKeeper

MacKeeper is a protection software only compatible with Mac OS. So, what MacKeeper does? The application mainly takes care of the three symptoms.

Full Disk Space

In our computer, we have all sorts of files, videos, photos, games, utility programs and more. Eventually, you will run out of disk space. But, you could potentially gain gigabytes of disk space that has been full due to junk files. Those junk files are useless beings that just eat into the computer’s space. When your computer’s disk space is full, it also slows down the performance. MacKeeper tracks them and eliminates them from your Mac.

Mac Runs Slow

Mac users anticipate the faster speed and error-free experience while using it. But, Mac is also a computer machine that has limited memory capacity. When redundant programs are grabbing memory and not enough memory is left, it slows down your Mac. So, it is important to release redundant memory use and keep your memory use light and tidy. MacKeeper’s memory cleaner will do this automatically for you.

File Protection

It would be a naive thought that every file we download will be safe and bug-free. If we download infected files, they spread the virus and in the worst case, they disable our computer. If your computer becomes disabled, you might lose all your files. So it is better to be safe than sorry. The protection software prevents malware, adware, and other major harmful viruses from damaging your computer and personal data.

MacKeeper Major Features

We just learned for what we can use MacKeeper. In this section, we will discover what major features the software has for Mac users.

Cleaning

When your storage is full, you no longer can store more files, and it slows down your computer. It could be a headache to find unnecessary files yourself. Using MacKeeper, you can easily delete unnecessary files, apps, extensions, and whatever that takes up your Mac storage. When you execute MacKeeper’s cleaning, it will perform a deep scan and thorough junk cleaning across your operating system (MacOS) while keeping personal files safely.

Plus, the cleaning feature can track duplicate files, which will give you additional storage save in addition to junk files deletion. Of course, some duplicate files could be intentionally created, thus should be kept. MacKeeper will ask you before deleting duplicate files and will safely keep original files. And, it will not touch any system files.

Furthermore, when you delete installed apps, in many times, it does not clean entirely. It often leaves history files or other traces behind. And, you don’t want to go check if anything is left. MacKeeper can detect leftover files from deleted apps and eliminate those files. It even can detect and delete unnecessary widgets, plugins, and browser extensions.

Again, doing these by yourself is undeniably cumbersome, and it takes a long time. It is great that you can run all these functions by a few clicks.

Security

When you download files from the Internet, there is no guarantee that those files would be clean and safe. Harmful sites and emails will try to load viruses, malware, adware, or scams on your Mac. Or, you may be attacked by a hacker trying to steal your private information such as social media account and bank credentials. MacKeeper’s security feature will keep your Mac from all these adverse viruses.

MacKeeper has built-in Antivirus that protects your Mac from potential attacks. It will constantly sense malware, viruses, phishing attacks, and other harmful attacks. MacKeeper gets security update every day so that you can have up-to-date security information on your MacKeeper. In addition to Antivirus, MacKeeper has other security features, Track My Mac and Adware Cleaner.

Track My Mac allows you to track the location of a stolen Mac. Mac computers are expensive, so you don’t want to lose yours and buy a new one. If your Mac is stolen, just use this feature to see your Mac on a map and take a photo of the suspect using a webcam. You can use your iPhone to lock your Mac remotely using a free Track My Mac app.

Adware Cleaner removes annoying Adware. It can be harmful to your Mac as well. This built-in cleaner detects and removes this malicious Adware fast and easy.

Performance

When you use your Mac for a long time, you might experience a slowdown in apps and browsers you are using. The biggest reason for the slowdown after the long use would be unnecessary processes eating up your memory, which has a negative effect on your Mac’s performance. MacKeeper can find those free-riding programs and kill them automatically.

Memory Cleaner is the feature that monitors your memory use and removes unnecessary use of RAM in real time. Memory cleaner monitors memory automatically and will not harm apps or files.

Login Items control your startup items that turn on when you boot up your Mac. Too many startup programs reduce the booting speed. With Login Items, you can decide which app should be loaded. You can see all startup items and easily turn off useless startup apps. However, it will not touch system apps for safety.

Update Tracker allows you to easily track any updates and patches for your apps. It is compatible with most of the apps, and you can update apps with the latest security updates.

Privacy

No one will want to see their personal data being shared without their permission. You will always want to keep your private data within your control. MacKeeper has the Privacy features that ensure your ownership of your personal data.

VPN Private Connect lets you use the Internet without worrying about your personal data exposed to a third party. We all know that the Internet is not always safe. Your browsing history is not very safe as you might think. Your internet service provider might sell the information to some other companies. VPN Private Connect can prevent this from happening. You can hide your browsing records even if you are using public Wi-Fi.

Anti-tracking blocks ads from chasing you after searches on the Internet. Some malicious ads can install tracking and notification extensions on your browser and monitor your online activity. These types of ads on your browser can slow down your browsing speed. Mackeeper’s anti-tracking extension can set you free from ads spying on you.

Now that we have discovered major features of MacKeeper, let’s find out how actual users think about this protection app.

How Customers Think About MacKeeper

When you see product introduction from a company, you will always hear great things about it. No company will reveal any weaknesses or defects of the product, obviously. So, as a consumer, it is wiser to doubt what they say and do your own research before making a final purchase decision. In this section, we will learn how actual users think about MacKeeper. How can we measure these? We can do this by using data analysis techniques called sentiment analysis.

You don’t have to be scared by the technical term. I did the technical part and you can just look at pretty graphs. In this section, I will show you two types of graphs – word cloud and customer sentiment chart. For the analysis, I’ve compiled more than 750 customer reviews from TrustPilot and conducted analysis to summarize them. I will show you the result in a word cloud and a customer sentiments chart. And, lastly, I will share a MacKeeper Google trend result that shows the level of interest from people.

Word Cloud

Word cloud is one of the great and fun ways to understand customer sentiments toward a product or a service. In a word cloud, you can see specific words in different sizes. The larger it is, the more people used that word to describe the product. For this word cloud, I used the titles of the reviews, since people put the essence of their opinions in the title. The 750+ reviews allowed me to generate an interesting word cloud that let me reach a positive conclusion. Take a look!

MacKeeper Positive Word Cloud
Positive Word Cloud

Understanding the word cloud is easy. Just follow your eyes and see what you see. You will see that most of the big words are all positive. This means that users have had a positive experience with the service. People used words like “excellent”, “great”, “good”, “professional”, “easy”, “helpful”, and more positive terms to describe this product. Among these words, people used “price” in the context of favorable toward the model’s affordable price tag.

Customer Sentiments

In the word cloud, we were able to observe what descriptive words people used to talk about MacKeeper. As mentioned, the word cloud is based on the titles of customer reviews, but the sentiment analysis graph was generated by the contents of the reviews. In the sentiment analysis, we will see more specific types of feeling that people showed in their review. In the analysis, you can see 10 different sentiments such as positive, negative, trust, anticipation, joy, fear, sadness, anger, surprise, and disgust.

The technology behind the chart is straightforward. The analysis algorithm holds 10 different lists – each list containing words that are mapped to one of the 10 sentiments. When this algorithm runs, it checks and matches with one of the sentiments. When matched, it is counted as one and is categorized in one of the 10 sentiments. My analysis on the positive reviews appears as below.

The chart is also not difficult to understand. You can see that the positive sentiment is ranked number one. The first rank is followed by “trust”, “negative”, “anticipation”, “joy” and “sadness”. It does have some negative opinions, but overall, people expressed more positive sentiments than negative ones. So my customer review analysis told me that many people have a positive experience with this app.

I also prepared a simpler version that shows only positive vs. negative. It will be easier to interpret this graph.

As you can see more users left positive feedback toward the software.

Google Trend

As the final segment of analysis, let me share the trend of MacKeeper. I used Google Trend to check how frequently “MacKeeper” is searched on Google over the past 12 months. Google Trend is a useful tool to measure the interest of people. The more frequently people search on Google, the more popular or trendy it is. The Google Trend result below (not visible on mobile phones) for the device below shows that people have shown an interest in this security software over the period, but it shows a slight downtrend.

MacKeeper has been globally used. So if we break down the interest by region, it looks like the below.

Find the list icon at the right bottom and click it, then it will show you the rank of countries. MacKeeper has gained the highest interest from Luxembourg, followed by China, St. Helena, Costa Rica, and Switzerland.

Pricing

MacKeeper has three plans.

  • Premium (12-month plan): $9.95 per month ($119.40 per year)
  • Standard (6-month plan): $11.95 per month ($71.40 per half a year)
  • Basic (1-month plan): $14.95 per month

Conclusion

As I researched MacKeeper, it seems that it has essential features that protect your Mac. My customer review analysis also tells us that users have had a great experience with the app overall. If you are looking for a way to protect your Mac, MacKeeper can be a great choice for you.
