This post explains how to unarchive an Instagram post. Just in case, I included a YouTube video that gives you a step-by-step guide to unarchive an Instagram post. Let’s just go straight into the point.
How to unarchive an Instagram post
It is straightforward to unarchive an Instagram post.
- Log into your Instagram account and find the small profile icon at the right bottom corner. Press it to go to your account page.
- Press the three stacked lines to open a list of menu options.
- Press the Archive > Posts (iOS) or Posts Archive (Android) button.
- Search the post you want to unarchive and select it.
- At the top right corner, find the three dots aligned horizontally (iOS) or vertically (Android) and press it to open more options.
- Press “Show on Profile” to unarchive it and bring it back to your main profile feed.
That was it! Your unarchived post will become visible to your followers again. If your account is public, anyone will be able to see it too.
Remember that the unhidden post will not be treated as a new post. It will just return to where it was before it’s hidden. Once it brought back to life, people also can like and comment on it if you have enabled them.
If it’s difficult to follow the written steps above, watch this YouTube guide.
Background of the Feature
This unarchiving feature had not been included in the early Instagram. It was 2017 when Instagram decided to add this feature. Of course, people may want to hide their posts to the public or to their followers for some reason. It makes sense that if there is a way to hide your posts, there should be a way to unhide it.
If you are a long user and unable to find your old posts, check your Archive if they are there. Instead of deleting your posts, archiving can be a safer way to remove (not totally) your posts from your feed.
How to archive an Instagram post
Just in case you want to know how to archive (hide) your posts from your feed, I explained the steps here below. Be assured that since archiving posts aren’t deleting, all likes and comments will still be kept. You are just making them invisible to your followers and the public.
- Log into your Instagram account and find the small profile icon at the right bottom corner. Tap it to go to your account page.
- Find the post you want to archive.
- Press the button with the three dots aligned horizontally (iOS) or vertically (Android).
- Press Archive.
Archiving is also as easy as unarchiving.
So, these are useful features on Instagram. My next question is when do you want to archive your posts? There must be a good reason why Instagram provides the feature. In the next section, we will talk about when you want to archive your posts.
When to Archive Instagram Posts
So, when do you want to archive Instagram posts?
If you use Instagram to launch campaigns that need to go for a certain period, you may want to archive the campaign posts. When you post a campaign, people might comment and like it. And, after a certain period, the campaign could no longer be relevant making your visitors confused.
To prevent this, you can archive the campaign posts. As I pointed out, you can still keep those comments and likes.
In terms of consistency, it could be the type of content or the overall design of your posts. It could be good for account image to maintain a concept. It will look more professional and easy-to-follow.
Also, if some of your old posts look inconsistent with your color scheme or the arrangements such as rows and columns, you may want to archive them.
It can be related to consistency. If you find some posts not relevant or simply too old, you may want to hide them. Those posts might hold wrong information misleading your visitors. If you find that that’s the case, have the courage to archive them!
Policy or law violations
Sometimes, people make a mistake. They might post something that is against Instagram policies or some copyrights. Or, people might just borrow someone’s work without getting permission from the owner or forget putting a reference to the source. In addition, your content might hold some sensitive information that is not supposed to share with the public.
This could happen to individuals or companies. In this case, you may be able to prevent more trouble by hiding the problematic posts.
In this post, we learned how to unarchive an Instagram post in step-by-step. It turned out it is easy and convenient since it will keep all the likes and comments of the posts to be hidden. I think because you are not deleting permanently, if you have a double in your post, you can use this feature with ease of mind.
